These savory puff pastry bites are perfect for appetizers or party snacks. Flaky, buttery pastry filled with a savory mix of cheese, herbs, and your choice of fillings make them irresistible!
Ingredients
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your choice)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped cooked ham, bacon, or sausage (optional)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped vegetables (like bell peppers, spinach, or mushrooms)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 tsp dried herbs (like thyme, oregano, or rosemary)
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. - Prepare Pastry:
Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into small squares or rectangles, about 2 inches in size. - Add Filling:
Place a small amount of shredded cheese in the center of each pastry square. If using, add a bit of chopped ham, bacon, sausage, and/or vegetables on top of the cheese. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt, pepper, dried herbs, and garlic powder. - Fold and Seal:
Fold the pastry squares into triangles or rectangles, pressing the edges to seal them. You can also use a fork to crimp the edges and ensure they are sealed properly. - Apply Egg Wash:
Brush the tops of the pastry bites with the beaten egg for a golden finish. Drizzle lightly with olive oil or melted butter if desired. - Bake:
Place the prepared pastry bites on the lined baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed up. - Cool and Serve:
Allow the puff pastry bites to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
Feel free to customize the fillings based on your preferences or what you have on hand!
